Self Vigil

Wednesday’s July 6, 2011, serial blasts in Mumbai were grim reminder of the ineptness of the intelligence apparatus of the State as well as the Central Governments, which otherwise would have saved precious lives of innocents.  Even as the government and the bigwigs of the law enforcing agencies ponder over their failures and do something at least to step up vigil, particularly when the Independence Day celebrations are ahead next month, people themselves can play a great role in prevention.  An alert public can avert tragedies like this.  It is high time people of this 100 billion+ country stood up and took some responsibility on their shoulders. While police and other law enforcing agencies can’t absolve themselves of the responsibility of providing and instilling security among the people, small, but important steps adopted by each and every citizen, like verification of tenants, maids, daily-wage workers, stepping up of security in societies, apartments, work places, etc. and most importantly promptly informing police about any suspicious object, person, etc – will go a long way in preventing such tragedies. Police on its part should remain on high alert 24X7 and not bank only on random special drives.

Frankly speaking, is anyone listening!

Rightly said...not only its a system failure but also failure on the part of common citizen. Only when it his one's life we cry foul! We all have short term memory and continue to lead our life saying it has not effected us...its time frankly to wake up and give back to those who dare us every now and then!

Its a wake up call for all of us!
