Corruption, or rather Cor(e)ruption hints at the rupture of the core – be it at the mind, community, national or international level. The core or the centre of power gets corrupted and sets in motion a concentric movement.
We have given to ourselves a welfare society and put in power a system and a government to govern and ensure welfare of all. And if that government falters, damaging the people’s interest, it must go. The logic is if “you don’t play by the law, I too will not.”
Seen in this perspective, Anna is justified and worth the applause for taking on the responsibility of being the fountainhead of the movement against corruption. He epitomizes people’s desire to live in a fair and transparent society.
The question is will the stakeholders in the power game, give up the reins of authority on being challenged.
The uprisings in India and the Arab world starkly demonstrate the existing hollowness of inflated egos and bank balances when confronted with the righteous fury of the common man.
